Griddle Art With "Pete The Cat"

"Pete the Cat"  by Eric Litwin and James Dean are interesting stories of a cat that never lets life circumstances get him down.  "Does Pete cry?  Goodness, No!  He keeps singing his song."

For a fun and interesting art project we did Griddle Art with Pete the Cat in preschool.  Put the gloves on because this art project is very warm.  Gather the old crayons because they come in very handy for this project. Fetch the electric pancake griddle.  You will also need a piece of foil to lay on top of the griddle to protect the griddle and a piece of card stock on top of that to color your picture on.  Turn the temperature between 150-200 degrees. Now you are ready to begin.

After we read the story of "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons", the children were ready to color a picture of Pete.  The children waited anxiously for their turn. The children were fascinated by the effect of the crayons on the paper after being warmed by the griddle. "Pete the Cat" assortment of books are GREAT for
emergent readers.  Adults will find Pete the Cat to be as intriguing as children do!

Hickory Kist Field Trip

Oak View Pre-School loves to visit Hickory Kist Deli.  They tour the facility with their hairnets on and see how all the delicious food is made at the deli; breads, cookies, etc.. Then it is time to decorate their cookies.  Time and creativity is put into this tasty activity.  Afterwards, everyone goes home very happy.

Learning To Read Is A Snap!

This fun reading activity provides practice with spelling, sentence building and comprehension.  The children love to snap the cubes together to make words to read.

Drums Alive!

Drums Alive is a rhythmic movement program that wakes up the brain to do cognitive thinking.  The beating on the balls is used to help with rhyming, reading, addition, subtraction, etc., plus physical movement as well.  The children love it!

Halloween

Witch Nana flew in for a visit to our preschool on Halloween Day!  You should have seen her in person!  She was amazing!  She was very friendly, read us a story and made Witches Brew!  Then she flew away!

The Red Barn

Every October it is a tradition to go to the Red Barn.  We love to get on the wagon pulled by a big tractor and ride out to the pumpkin patch and then back to the Red Barn for a yummy applesauce doughnut.  This year there was a new slide and everyone enjoyed it, even the grandparents of the students!

Stokes and Salem Pond Field Trip

Oak View Pre-School enjoyed a fun field trip in October to Stokes Fresh Food Market and Salem Pond.  First the students were given a tour of the grocery store by a preschool student's parent that is employed at the store.  They toured all the different sections of the store including sampling cheese from the deli and cookies from the bakery.  Then it was off to Salem Pond to have Friendship Salad which included; Apologizing Pineapple, Kind Peaches, Helpful Melons, No Push or Hit Pears, Loving Grapes, Sharing Cantaloupe and Friendly Bananas, NOT Rotten Bananas.  It was a beautiful Fall day enjoyed by all!

Granny Smith Day

On September 24, 2012 Granny Smith came and visited Oak View Pre-School to teach the students about different varieties of apples and how they are grown and harvested.  We love it when she comes!
